The tree commonly marketed as a “Silvertip” Christmas tree is typically the mountain-grown Abies magnifica (also called the “Red Fir” or “California Silvertip”) or trees styled similarly, and it boasts some distinctive and desirable features:

Because of the harsh alpine conditions and shorter growing season, the tree develops evenly spaced, open whorls of branches—giving the “Silvertip” tree its classic layered, tiered look ideal for ornament hanging and lights.
The needles of a Silvertip have a subtle bluish-green to silver-tinged cast, hence the name “silver tip.” The silhouette stays elegant and the structure holds up well in a home setting.
Another big plus: because these trees are harvested while still dormant and grown in colder mountain climate, they typically have very good needle retention and durability once cut—making them a long-lasting holiday centerpiece.

If you’re looking for a real-tree style Christmas tree that combines refined branch structure, elevated appearance, and strong longevity in the home, the Silvertip is a standout choice.
